I found this recipe on the A Dutchie Baking website. A “semla” (plural semlor) is a sweet roll made of rich dough spiced with cardamom, which is filled with almond paste and whipped cream. It’s a delicious treat that’s eaten on Fat Tuesday right before Lent begins.
The directions for making the bake from scratch buns are very clear. The filling is a creamy blend of almond paste, bread crumbs scooped from the buns, milk, and some other ingredients. Each bun is filled with the almond mixture and topped with whipped cream. It’s a wonderful and rich roll that’s perfect for Fat Tuesday.
